On Tuesday 9th March we were joined by clients, service providers and special guests including The Hon. Steve Irons, Federal Minister for Swan; Mr Chris Bothams on behalf of The Hon. Ken Wyatt AM MP, Minister for Indigenous Australians; and Wirrpanda Foundation Board members to celebrate our first year of operation.
Through the services offered here at the Hub including business coaching and mentoring; access to specialist business support; office space and computer access; and facilitating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement, we have now supported 170 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses. In addition to the support provided by their business coach, businesses have also had access to 51 dedicated service providers offering specialised business support.
The Wirra Hub not only supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to build their business capability, but also proudly supports the wider business community, across WA’s public, private and not-for-profit sectors, to achieve their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander procurement and employment targets. Since opening, we have partnered with 70 procurement/supply companies.
It has been a challenging year particularly with the effects of COVID-19, however it has all been worth it to see the positive outcomes experienced by our business clients.
We took the opportunity to showcase some of our clients at our special event including Gather Foods, Mocha Baby Cakery, Yabu Band and Sista Girl Sign and Print. We are so proud of what we have achieved in our first year and it has been a pleasure watching our clients grow and succeed in their business ventures. We can’t wait to see what the next year has in store!
