As part of the Wirra Hub’s commitment to providing support to Aboriginal businesses located in regional Western Australia, the Hub has commenced a series of Pop Up Regional Hubs to assist the service of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses outside the Perth metro region.
The roll out of each Pop Up Hub event has been strategically planned to coincide and compliment regions with major projects planned or in progress, and areas with large industry supply chains resulting from government or corporate investment. These locations present significant opportunities for local Aboriginal businesses given the commitments to bolster Indigenous Procurement and satisfy Indigenous Land Use Agreements targets for spends on Aboriginal businesses.
Bunbury and Kalgoorlie were first to kick off the Pop Up events in July, followed by Mandurah in August. The three Pop Up Hubs saw a total of 84 attendees, who all had the chance to have a yarn with our in-house Business Coaches. With skills ranging from business incubation and start up support to marketing, legal and tendering assistance, our Business Coaches were on hand to provide expert advice and one-on-one coaching.
Our attendees heard from organisations relevant to their regions, with Bunbury hearing about the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project, Kalgoorlie from DevelopmentWA on future work arising in the Goldfields and Mandurah from Indigenous Managed Services, Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peel-Harvey Catchment Council and Peel Development Commission.
